Troubleshooting & support
Fix iCloud sync, missing data, notifications and automatic logging in Lode, and send a bug report straight from the app.
Most problems come down to iCloud, notification permissions or an automation that’s switched off. This guide covers how to check each one, and how to reach us if that doesn’t fix it.
What iCloud sync needs
Lode keeps your data in your own iCloud and syncs it between devices. For that to work:
- Every device must be signed in to iCloud with the same Apple Account. Lode only syncs between devices on the same account.
- Lode must be allowed to use iCloud. In iOS Settings, tap your name, then
iCloud, and check that Lode is turned on in the list of apps that use iCloud. - Your iCloud storage must have free space.
- The device needs an internet connection.
If you’re not signed in to iCloud, Lode still works, but your data stays only on that device.
Check the sync status
Go to Settings → Backup & Sync. The iCloud Sync row shows one of these:
Waitingmeans no sync has happened yet since Lode opened.Syncing, with a spinner, means a sync is running.- A green check means the last sync went through.
- A red icon means something is wrong, with an explanation underneath.
When uploads from this device are failing, the row also shows Last successful upload and how long ago it was. That tells you how long this device’s changes haven’t been reaching your others. If a short technical code appears under the message, include it when you contact us.
What the messages mean
- “Your iCloud storage is full…” Free up space in iOS Settings → Apple Account → iCloud. Syncing resumes on its own.
- “iCloud isn’t accepting new data from Lode…” This usually means your iCloud storage is full, so check it as above. If there’s space, syncing resumes on its own.
- “No internet connection…” Syncing resumes when you’re back online.
- “iCloud is temporarily unavailable…” iCloud isn’t responding right now. Try again later.
- “Some records could not be synced…” This usually sorts itself out. If it doesn’t, send a bug report.
- “Sign in to iCloud in Settings…” Sign in to iCloud in iOS Settings.
Changes don’t appear on my other device
- Check the device where you made the change. Open
Settings → Backup & Syncon that device. If its uploads are failing, usually because iCloud is full, the other device has nothing new to receive. - Check the Apple Account. Make sure both devices are signed in to the same one.
- Open Lode on both devices. Sync runs in the background, but opening the app gives it a chance to catch up. It can take a little while.
- Low Power Mode can make iOS hold back background activity. Open Lode on both devices, or turn Low Power Mode off for a while.
- Check that Lode can use iCloud on both devices, as described above.
Shared accounts
- Everyone in a shared account needs available iCloud storage for it to sync. If iCloud is full, the shared account’s page shows
iCloud Storage Full. - To accept an invite, you need Lode installed and to be signed in to iCloud.
- The participants are listed on the account’s page. If someone’s changes aren’t arriving, have them check
Settings → Backup & Syncon their own device.
Data missing after a reinstall or on a new device
- Give it time. Sign in with the same Apple Account, open Lode and leave it open on a good connection while your data downloads from iCloud. Lode won’t add a second set of starter categories while it waits.
- Check the basics: the Apple Account, whether Lode is allowed to use iCloud, and the status in
Settings → Backup & Sync. - If the old device wasn’t syncing, for example because its iCloud was full, its latest changes may never have reached iCloud. If you still have that device, check its
Backup & Syncscreen and fix the problem there first. - Restore a backup file if you have one:
Settings → Backup & Sync → Restore from Backup. Restoring adds missing items and updates existing ones without deleting anything. See Backup & Restore. - Looking for an account? It may be archived. Open
Settings → Accountsand switch toArchived. - Premium missing? Open the Premium screen and tap
Restore Purchases. See Lode Premium.
If you weren’t signed in to iCloud on the old device, its data was stored only on that device and can’t be downloaded from iCloud.
Notifications don’t arrive
- Go to
Settings → Notificationsand make sureAllow Notificationsis on. If iOS has notifications off for Lode, you’ll seeNotifications Disabled. TapOpen Settingsand allow notifications for Lode. - Turn on the specific type you’re missing, such as
Expense Reminder,Budget Alerts,Shared Account ActivityorApple Pay Payments. Each one has its own switch. Bill, debt and goal reminders also needAllow Notificationson. - Tap
Send a test notification. If the test arrives, Lode’s side is working. - If the test doesn’t show up, check iOS Settings → Notifications → Lode, and any Focus that might be holding notifications back.
Automatic logging doesn’t work
If payments from your bank’s notifications or Apple Pay aren’t being logged, the most common causes are:
- The automation is switched off. An imported automation starts switched off. In the Shortcuts app, open
Library → Automationand turn it on. - Your device or iOS version. Logging from bank notifications needs iOS 27. The Apple Pay automation needs an iPhone with iOS 18 or later.
- A payment in another currency on the free plan uses your monthly free conversions. Once they’re used up, the payment isn’t saved until you upgrade to Premium or use an account in the card’s currency.
- You never hear about a failure. Turn on
Notify Me After Each PaymentinSettings → Automation, orApple Pay PaymentsinSettings → Notifications, so Lode tells you when a payment couldn’t be saved.
Each guide has its own troubleshooting section: Bank notifications and Apple Pay automation.
If Siri replies Open Lode and accept AI data processing to use this feature, turn on Settings → Lode AI and tap Continue.
Send a bug report
Go to Settings → About → Report a Bug. Lode prepares an email to our support address. You see everything before it’s sent, and nothing leaves your phone until you tap Send.
The email contains:
- your Lode version, device model, iOS version, and language and region setting
- the state of iCloud sync: whether iCloud is available, when your personal and shared data last uploaded and downloaded, and any current sync error
- recent freezes and crashes, as recorded by iOS
- an attachment,
Lode-diagnostics.txt, with a log of what the app did over its last few days
The log holds no amounts, names, notes or account details. Private values are written as <private>. You can open the attachment, or remove it, before sending.
If Apple’s Mail app isn’t set up, Lode opens your email app with the same text and the last lines of the log pasted in, without an attachment.
Add a sentence or two about what happened and what you were doing at the time. That helps us more than anything else.
